Ansgard Thomson

I was born in 1923 in Silesia, Germany. I grew up surrounded by art. My father painted in watercolors and my uncle was a well-known Silesian painter in oils, my brothers and sisters were also exploring art in one form or another, we were 7 children. I claim that my early influences gave me a lifelong interest in art.

Living in Paris after the war for 10years helped me to learn about all art forms and appreciate the differences .

In 1959 I immigrated to Canada and I became a Canadian.

I completed my art education via further education art courses from several artists and artists from the University Extension Department and participated in the juried Alberta wide shows as a member of the Alberta Community Arts Association and local Art shows in Fort Assiniboine were I lived on the farm .Was represented by Canadiana Gallery in Edmonton till its closure.

As a traditional painter in traditional media I started using the computer to generate art on the computer since 1993. Attracted by the new media and the many programs one could find on the Internet I explored the differences as well as the similarities to the natural way of making art.

My choices of programs were related to my aim to produce 2D works.

In 1997 I designed my first home page and ventured on the Internet. I still have no commercial site, but had very many invitations to show my art in virtual galleries around the globe.

I joined the artist den in New Mexico and had over 5000 hits to one of my traditional paintings. I also made my first friends sharing my interests to dedicate my goal and energy towards creating digital fine art.

I avoided the use of a scanner to not use any of my original paintings to create my new works with the computer.

In Sept 1997 I added a Digital Camera "Mavica" from Sony to my tools. This has given me a great opportunity to get photographs faster into the computer to explore photo enhancement and manipulations with filters and brushes.

This was a lot of fun and it was somehow of interest for local art shows to entertain and illustrate the possibilities of the computer enhancements.

At the same time I improved my digital output, by printing the created works.

After long search for producing archival prints .I am now able to print limited editions on Epson2000 P limited to 5 prints on high quality archival papers in my own studio (actually only on demand more than one )

I provide a certificate of authenticity of my original work with each print sold.
