Biography

COLLAGES After years of experimenting with different art forms I discovered collage in 1986. I was immediately captivated by the opportunities and challenges of creating a new eclectic reality by finding and combining apparently unrelated photos from contemporary magazines. Since coming to Canada and focusing on art as a profession, collages became the main form of my expression and artistic communication. STYLE My style leans towards
surrealism and conceptualism: images are mostly figurative, containing
recognizable objects placed in unusual relationships. I strive for precision
and the fine balance of shapes and colours, trying to blur the distinction
between collage and painting. The work is permeated with inner visions
and themes from mythology, religion and psychology. The expression is
layered, so that in the same collage one can often find images of the
contemporary alienation, emotional emptiness and lack of spirituality
of the modern man; his eternal need for wholeness; and indications of
archetypal images assisting him in his search for meaning. People, split
between awareness and unconsciousness, torn between their needs, compulsions,
hopes, doubts, and aesthetic values, are the focus of my interest. Limited
by the time and determined by the unchangeable past, they expand through
dreams and desires in their endless quest for the unknown. TECHNIQUE I work in the traditional paper-on-paper technique, without aid of computer tools and with minimal use of drawing, painting and other materials. For me, the creative process happens during the lengthy search for images and the subsequent selection and composition of photographs to match my ideas. Often frustrating, limitations of available shapes, sizes and colors interact with my original visions and sometimes create surprising new insights. Designed & Maintained by noosagallery.com
