MERCEDES VANDENDORPE

BIOGRAPHY

I was born in Canada in 1970. What stays in my heart from that country mostly is the magnificient nature, so white during winter it becomes as endless as the sky.

In 1982, I moved to Spain. there I discovered other colours, like the one of the burned soil, and the oranges, and the reds. I studied here my first year of Fine Art studies at the University of Valencia.

Then I moved back to Canada again, to complete the Art studies at the University of Ottawa. Then I moved again forward…

It has been a curious life travelling all around the world, discovering others shades, others cultures and identities, and others faces. And other landscapes.

And that has brought me back to myself. So I paint myself as a mexican, or an indian, or an African woman, it doesn’t matter, because it is always what lays inside me which draw my attention. And what is in me, is inside all of you. So I’m also painting the strengh yet the softness, the creative power and the beauty in everyone of you. Can you recognize yourself?
